Summertime Riverfest featuring Australia’s biggest duck race is happening on Saturday 15 October and it promises to be a quacker of a day out. Along with the spectacle of all those giant ducks on the Brisbane river there’s live entertainment on the river stage, kids zones and licenced areas and all in aid of cancer research.
The 2pm show stopper is the 100m duck race but things are kept quacking along with some of Brisbane’s best local artists on the Pradella River Stage and the GotU Duck Inn Chillout Zone while children have their own Kids Zone with an animal farm, face painting, zorbing and a Totally Wild stage show.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of duck racing for cancer research, galvanising the community to come together to fly the flag for the cause and show their support for people and their families affected by cancer. PA Research Foundation Chief Operating Officer Simone Plunkett says when it comes to supporting the duck to stop cancer we can all do our bit to help our nurses, researchers, clinicians find the next life-saving treatment.
“We can all be a part of making that discovery a reality by supporting the Duck and raising funds to help provide early diagnosis, better treatments and long term care with the ultimate goal of stopping cancer,” says Simone.
Thousands are expected to flock to the river’s edge to be a part of the fun and festivities the day has to offer along with the iconic race that quacks the nation so waddle on down and join them for a very good cause.
